We instinctively know love. It is not something we learn; it is a primal instinct. Even the most hardened criminal possesses a natural love for their own child—this is the core of human nature. Of course, there are cases where these emotions are damaged or distorted, but generally, we live our lives upon the foundation of love.

As I previously mentioned regarding the conscience, Love is the fundamental essence of human nature.

It’s not simply that humans choose to love because they want to; rather, we were created such that our internal hormonal systems fall into depression and isolation without it.

To explain this through the “science” that so many of you revere: It is a survival battle between Oxytocin and Cortisol. When isolated, Cortisol levels explode, leading to a surge in depression and emotional anxiety. However, when you love someone or form healthy bonds, Oxytocin increases. Ultimately, for you to truly flourish and remain “whole” in this world, your system requires a higher level of Oxytocin.

The Bible contains verses that prove this design. From the beginning, man and woman were meant to meet, love, and multiply.

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

The New Testament further declares that love is more important than any other law.

Romans 13:8 “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all that you do be done in love.”
